Moving Advice You Must Know

Hi there, my name is Devin and when my friends and family get ready to move to a new house, they always call on me to help. I own a large box truck that I use for my work, and when someone needs to move, I use my truck to help them move. Because I've done this numerous times, I've learned many things about moving. The good thing is that I can offer sound advice when a problem arises. Since I'm the guy that everyone needs when they move, my friend suggested that I write a blog. After thinking it over, I realized that many people would be able to benefit from my experience with moving and so this blog was born. I hope that by reading this blog, it will help you when moving.

Challenges Of Long-Distance Moves And How To Overcome Them

When you move to a new house in the same city, the job of moving is not quite as hard as it is when you move to a new home in a different state or location. Long-distance moving has a lot more challenges than local moves, and hiring a moving company for assistance will be a necessity if you want to stay organized and make sure your belongings arrive safely at your new house. As you start planning your move, here are several different challenges you may face that you should plan for ahead of time.

Cleaning And Preparing Your New Home

Even if you are buying a new house, there may be some work needed in the home before you actually move in. This often includes a good deep cleaning of the house, but it may require even more than that. If the house is not brand new, you may need to clean the carpets in the home, repaint the walls, or fix a few small issues. The problem with this is that it can be hard to get these things completed if you live far away. The other problem is that you will not want to start moving your things into the house until these tasks are done; otherwise, you will just be tripping over all your things.

These are normal challenges people face when moving long distance, but there are several ways to handle these issues. The first option is to hire someone to complete the work. You could hire a cleaning company to handle all the cleaning tasks, and you could hire a handyman to take care of the painting and minor repairs.

The only other option you have is to make sure you arrive at the new house a day or two before your movers arrive with your things. By doing this, you could take care of the duties yourself; however, it may be hard to live in the home without any of your belongings. This is why you may want to hire out the duties to someone else instead of trying to handle them yourself.

Keeping Your Things Safe And Organized

A second challenge you may face when moving long distance is keeping your things safe and organized during the move. Depending on how far away the move is, it may take days for the movers to arrive with all your belongings. Because of this, you will need to be very meticulous with the way you pack. You will need to make sure you have everything with you that you will need for multiple days. This includes clothing, bedding, personal hygiene products, and medications.

The rest of your things can be placed in boxes, and you should make sure you use sturdy boxes to pack everything. Pack the boxes tightly too, so they do not crush easily when stacked. If you have fragile items, you will need to make sure you wrap them well with bubble wrap or something similar. You may also want to mark the boxes "fragile" so your movers know to use caution with those boxes.

In addition, labeling all boxes will help make unpacking easier, and you may even want to use a system to help you know which boxes to unpack first. For example, in addition to labeling the boxes with the room name or contents, you may also want to put a #1 on the boxes that you know you must unpack first. You could place a #2 or #3 on boxes that are not as important to unpack right away.

If you would like to learn more about packing and moving to a long-distance location, contact a local moving company that specializes in long-distance moves, such as Palmieri Movers.
